Goal 4

Support the empowerment of people with disabilities of all ages through the Kansas Disability Caucus, Youth Leadership Forum and Independent Living Summit.

Timeline
2005 & 2007 Caucus
2006 I.L. Summit

The purpose of the Kansas Disability Caucus is to develop new leadership in Kansas, to present participants the tools they need for successful self advocacy, to educate Kansans with disabilities about the mechanics of the policy making process, and to encourage their participation in it.  Kansans with disabilities have witnessed that when people unite toward a common cause, it does make a difference.

Information gathered during the regional Caucus sessions assists the Statewide Independent Living Council (SILCK) in developing the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). Grassroots advocacy groups also use this time to report on the status of local activities and outcomes results of their efforts.

Acknowledging youth as the future of our movement in Kansas, the SILCK will continue to support the activities of the Youth Leadership Forum
